Popcorn Blog - Watch and post

HORRORS! My first movie choise is out of print. Will come up w/ a replacement in very short order. I think what we shall do is begin with Casablanca and go on from there.

Very sorry!

With a thousand thank yous to all who suggested titles from the first day to late last night when the whole thing got redone...

OK, here's the ground rules

Each week, watch the movie. Discuss.

The general questions to discuss:

What is salvation in the context of this movie?
Who is saved? How? By Whom?
Who is lost? How? To where?

Post by the "due Tuesday" as assigned below.

Surf around to all the blogs on the link list and comment.

I will make a link list of all those who said they would participate - my only stipulation: you as a participant in the discussion, should post a link to the list in every Tuesday post.

If you (A) decide you don't want to post on a given movie; (b) can't find a copy of it, please feel free to either watch a movie of your own choosing or "lay out" for the week. Don't forget to surf around in the associated blogs, however, and participate in the discussion!

Part of this is the joy of all of us watching together and knowing what each other is talking about... Anytime anyone posts on a movie he may have watched alone, please either post a synopsis or else link to the IMDB plot synopsis so we have an idea what's being discussed!

One other note: feel free to share the joy! If you want to watch in a group and "group blog" or else discuss out loud, for blogging later, please do!

The Movies are in Chronological Order...

Tuesday 8 June - Stella Dallas (Goldwyn, 1937)
Tuesday 15 June - Casablanca (Warner, 1942)
Tuesday 22 June - Now Voyager, (Warner, 1942)
Tuesday 29 June - Dark Passage (Warner, 1947)

Tuesday 6 July - The African Queen (Horizon, 1951)
Tuesday 13 July - Breakfast at Tiffany's (Paramount, 1961)
Tuesday 20 July - Hamlet (Icon, 1990)
Tuesday 27 July - Groundhog Day (Columbia, 1993)

Tuesday 3 August - Princess Mononoke (Densu/Nippon TV, 1997)
Tuesday 10 August - The Green Mile (Castle Rock/Warner, 1999)
Tuesday 17 August - 28 Days (Columbia, 2000)
Tuesday 24 August - Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon (Asia Union/Sony, 2000)
Tuesday 31 August - Star Trek: Nemesis (Paramount, 2002)

Some of these I've never seen. Some of these I own. SOme of these were suggested by readers... some were "sort of" suggested - the Mel Gibson Hamlet was what I think was intended when the Scottish Play was suggested.

I've left out some of my favorite genres: there are no "real" war movies. There are no westerns. The list also shows my horrid culture: you'll note I really couldn't come up with anything at all between the 1960s and the 1990s.

Hi Michael! It's not there yet b/c people are still signing up (like yourself). We'll have a list as soon as... well, as soon as we have a list :-)

Re: list of all the participants and their blog links

Sidebar to come ITNF (in the near future) I imagine? I'd volunteer to build the sidebar in my blog for you but my html skills are purely cut and paste from the help boards at this point. Although, someday they'll match my Ticonderoga 2.0 skills I fear. Notice who learned how to mark up italics? He's such a smart boy.

Excellent work Huw, thanks. I am looking forward to this... Genres? We don't need no stinking genres, If this is succesful there'll be more... Winters in make for great movie watching too.

Wow! Great list. I fell in love with Sandra Bullock during 28 days! Am I supposed to wait until that week to start blogging the films I like?

And I've got a great inside story on the performances in African Queen... I won't spoil it now....

1980s
Excaliber??
St. Elmo's Fire
Invasion of the Body Snatchers
The Lost Boys !!! How could you not, we've blogged this some already. ; )

So... is Casablanca first? Did we decide? What's the final answer?

From: michael | 2004.05.21:1412 (@842)

And are we now starting a week later, or are we pushing them all forward?
